Planning on Outsourcing Work – Here are some Pros and Cons to Outsourcing Work

An organization needs its workforce; however when hiring expenses skyrocket due to a number of reasons those maybe because of the labor, office space rent, furniture, utility bills etc. Therefore to often avoid extra internal expenses organizations tend to outsource most of their work. As not only it is a suitable alternative as compared to hiring someone or an entire team to come work inside your office premises but also cheaper.

But what is outsourcing?

In simple and precise words outsourcing is hiring someone from the outside as a freelancer, service/solution provider, and consultant etc to manage work.

Outsourcing had gained great public notice during the Great Recession in the USA, as during that time the people were forced to outsource their projects, teams, etc in order to save money.

Pros of Outsourcing

There are many pros and cons that come with outsourcing work. Pros include: Outsourcing work is cheap, and perhaps the main reason why most companies often opt to outsource most of their work. Costs go down, as when hiring someone on contract you do not have to pay them a salary on a monthly or weekly basis but rather than on the amount of time they put in, which can be tracked by a time tracking software. It is easier to manage projects when you outsource them, the internet and other tools have made lives easier when it comes to collaboration and you can assign tasks and set deadlines accordingly.

Access to a wide range of talent from all around the world, when you are outsourcing your work you are not just limited to people living in the vicinity of your company. You can hire people living anywhere in the world to do your work, that way you will have a diverse range of people with various talents. Not to mention when you have outsourced your workforce, they will be in a different time zone and can easily provide you with work even if it’s a holiday in your home town!

Cons of Outsourcing

Along with benefits there are some cons that do accompany an organization when outsourcing work. The cons of outsourcing include: Frequent delays in project deliveries, it can take much longer to get work done by outsourcing it. This is often caused by miscommunication, inaccuracies, or even if you and your employee is adjusting to new software.

Often remote employees tend to lose focus, as they don’t have the prying eye of their boss on them all the time like they would have when working on the desk. This can be solved by integrating a time management and project management software to keep a better track of your remote employees while ensuring they do not lose focus of their assigned tasks.

While having a wide range of talent from all over the world is a pro when it comes to outsourcing it can also be a barrier in terms of language. Not everyone will be able to speak the same language as you and this can cause miscommunication and slow down processes, but don’t fret like stated earlier the talent pool worldwide large enough for you to find someone who understands the same language as you do.
